6.2 FOREIGN MAIL

Although officially not allowed, some correspondence for foreign countries did slip through the Polish Post in the Free City.

Right: Counterfoil for a telegram with a RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA KOMISARZ JENERALNY with eagle official real of the Polish Diplomatic Representative in the Free City of Gdańsk. The telegram was sent on 6 October 1928 from Gdańsk to Hamburg.

Below: Letter from Polish Post Office Gdańsk 1 to Germany sent through the Polish Post in the Free City. The envelope was endorsed that postage due was payable by the addressee. Accordingly, in Germany 50 pfennig postage due (NACHGEBÜHR) was raised. POLSKI URZĄD POCZTOWO- TEL. GDAŃSK 1 u cds 11.1.35.
