Batterie "Schleswig-Holstein"

Gun Emplacement & floor layout of the so-called Schleswig-Holstein Battery :

Detailed Photograph of the gun location for the Schleswig-Holstein battery during construction by Nazi Germany, in anticipation of an attack by the Russian naval forces.

Construction on this base was begun soon after the surrender of the Polish forces. The Schleswig-Holstein battery was built for three 40.6 cm model SK C/34 guns, called "Adolfguns", which were capable of trowing 1030 kiligram projectiles at targets up to 56 kilometers away. The Baltic Sea or the Danziger Bucht could have been lit up by a fierce naval-Hel Peninsula duel, but they found more carnage from the sinking of civilian refugee boats that tried to escape west.
Soviet submarines torpedoed several ships that resulted in a large loss of life.
