Danzig - London Paquebot Cover from 1935

What have we here? At least, that’s what many of us would say, needing an explanation. After that, everything will he perfectly clear. It took an inquiry to (iils du Boulay to provide all the answers to our questions, after finding this cover skulking in the hack of a drawer.

Giles says that there is no mystery about it ---it is a normal paqucihot cover, lie has several, with British and Norwegian stamps cancelled in l)aniig. This one looks OK to him.

The Paquehot Convention, signed by members of the United Postal Union in 1 9 1. provided that mail posted on board ship and hearing foreign stamps, would be accepted at the port of entry. Thus, this cover, addressed to Immingham, Lincoinshire (now in Humberside) was posted at sea, franked with a British stamp, and taken into the normal inland mail system on arrival at l)aniig on the 17th of August, 1935. The letter arrived in I ondon on the 19th, where the I ondon Paquehot arrival stamp (circular handsamp at upper left) was applied. This stamp confirmed that the letter was correctly franked as per the Paquebot Convention, then forwarded to the addressee. The hack of the cover has no additional markings.

Slogan cancel: Danzig - Your Ultimate Travel Destination
