TRIAL PROOFS OF THE PRINTING HOUSE SAUER
(Things changed since (lie end of World War II (and the 1937 printing of these Holtz notes). Kurt Holtz listed three questions and answers, which reflected the thinking of that time. The main difference is that many essays and proofs came on tile market after the war, and the following answers, which emanated from the Danzig Post Office in 1933, are now obsolete.)

Answer to Question No. 1: [The questioner is referring to an advertisement for proofs.) The designs that are illustrated in your advertisement did originate from official sources. The designs could come only from the private printing firm of Julius Sauer, or from other interested parties who submitted such material but which wasn’t accepted for the preparation of the final issue of stamps by the Post and Telegram Department.
Hand written marginal notes in Hennig’s copy of the book, probably written by Schuler, state “Die Proben nicht existent!”
