180 F 1 - A look at four different Plates.
Find it in position 73.

Due to a misplaced cliché, the 50,000 stamp is sometimes found se-tenant with a 10,000 Mark stamp. With a 5 Millionen black overprint, it is known as 180 F 1. Imperforate varieties of the 250,000 and 500,000 Mark values are still to be found, but are known only with horizontal watermark. All varieties of the printing are known with vertical watermark and are designated as 177X, 178X, 179X and 180X. Possibly only 100 stamps in each category originally existed? (See Page 373 in Michel's English Edition for a more complete list of Varieties and Proofs.)
It should be mentioned that CTO stamps abound in this set; some are actually back-dated to August, 1923, so be careful while purchasing them.
In our first attempt to analyze this Fifth Airmal Series, {DR-37, October 1982} we had a translation by Bud Hennig of an article by the late Karl Kniep, who was, at the time, the head of the German ARGE Study Group, Danzig.

Michel lists the following vrieties, among other examples are:
177 D U - double print, imperf.
178 DD U - same.
178 U G - Imperf; printed on gum site.
178 F - without overprint of the new values.
179 F U - same, but imperf.
179 F DD - same but double print.
179 F DD U - same, but imperf.
180 F 1 - overprint 5 Millionen on 10,000 instead of 50,000, position 73.
180 F II - without overprint of new value.
180 F III - Michel Nr. 180 F I, without overprint, position 73.
180 F U G - 180 F U printed on gum side.
