John Gilroy: Displaying the Flag

John Gilroy (a.k.a. Albany John) has been one of our most enthusiastic Danzig boosters, and he has been our Designated Historian of the study group. At 82 years, John has provided us with incentives and knowledge of our favorite city, even though he has not yet visited Gdansk. A prolific writer, we tied John into Ernie Solit’s research efforts, resulting in more and more Danzig information. The photo is of John, holding his “ORIGINAL 1920’s Danzig flag” that flew from the motor launch that belonged to the firm of his good friend, Louis Kawecki. Unfortunately,,we suspect that Louis is deceased, since all efforts to contact him in California have failed. Also illustrated is an envelope from his firm Kawecki & Wolff, as well as a cover from Weimar with a 120—Mk stamp, dated 21.6.23. Mi, for the days when a young man could deliver his father’s hardware from a motor launch in Danzig!
