5 THE MAIN POST AND TELEGRAPH OFFICE

5.1.2 DOMESTIC MAIL – POSTAL SERVICES

A system of payment by cash with
discount by special agreement with
the Post Ministry was available for
organisations sending large volumes
of printed matter. Mail was endorsed
with an opłata uiszczona gotówką cash
payment mark, either handstamped or
printed, which also indicated the
number of the special agreement. The
permission had to be renewed every
year and as a result of that mail shows
different agreement numbers. The
Macierz Szkolna, the Polish Education
Society, was the only organisation in
Danzig that acquired such permission,
used mainly to send mailings asking
for donations.

20 February 1932. Printed matter from
the Polish Education Society in
Danzig to Kraków with a boxed cash
payment indication and agreement
number for the year 1932
handstamped on the cover.

29 December 1936. Printed
matter from the Polish Education
Society in Danzig sent to Kraków
with a boxed cash payment
indication and agreement number
for the year 1935 pre-printed on
the cover. The 1935 cover was
still used in December 1936!
