>> 2.1 THE POSTAL AND TELEGRAPHIC MANAGEMENT OFFICE
Between the wars, the Polish post normally used official seals on documents, covers or (more rare) on cards to confirm the official character of these documents. Other ways of usage of official seals exist, but are quite rare. The Polish Post in Gdańsk used an official seal of the Postał and Telegraphic Management Office three times as pre-cancellations. Next to these three pre-cancellations with the use of official seals from the Polish Post in Gdańsk, there are two other cases of the use of an official seal on mail. It is unclear why the official seal was used, as the mail contains completely private correspondence and was sent to a private person as well.
Above: Port Gdańsk postcard sent on 9 July 1934 to Poznań with the official seal DYREKCJA POCZT I TEL.R.P. * W GDAŃSKU* with the number '2' in the stars on the left and right side from 'W GDAŃSKU".
Below: Reply card sent from Poland to Gdańsk with a Port Gdańsk stamp of the 1927 issue. The postage had been prepaid in Gdańsk, the stamp was pre-cancelled with an official seal DYREKCJA POCZT I TELEGRAFÓW RZECZYPOSPOLITEJ POLSKIEJ W GDAŃSKU WYDZIAŁ RACHUNKOWY (Postał and Telegraphic Management Office of the Polish Republic in Gdańsk — Accounting Department).
