2. THE HARBOUR POST OFFICE

2.1 THE EXCHANGE OF MAIL WITH OVERSEAS COUNTRIES

In November 1920 the Post started to use special labels with the text Z
AMERYKI PRZEZ U.E.P. GDAŃSK NOWY PORT (From America
through forwarding Post Office Danzig Nowy Port) for numbering the
parcels. Three different series of labels were used: labels with the code
letter a were used from November 1920, labels with the code letter c
were used from December 1920 and labels without code letter from
March 1921. Labels with the code letter b have not been found until
now.

March 1921. German postal money order form used in Danzig as an
auxiliary parcel card for a 4 kg parcel sent to Bełz with the Gdańsk
Nowy Port label with code letter a. In Danzig 15 marks due were
calculated for handling in the harbour and 6 marks for customs
handling. TARNÓW 2 2a cds 23 March 1921 and a single-line Wolne
od cła of the Tarnów customs post office. BEŁZ b arrival cds 2 April
1921 and 3 April 1921 from the day the parcel card was sent to the
recipient.

December 1920. Overprinted Austrian parcel
card for COD parcels used in Danzig as an
auxiliary parcel card for a 4½ kg parcel sent to
Strzemieszyce with the Gdańsk Nowy Port c
label. 6 marks harbour duty and 2 marks for
the customs handling due were calculated.
STRZEMIESZYCE cds 17 December 1920, the
day the card was sent to the addressee, and 19
December 1920, the day the parcel was
collected, on the reverse.

April 1921. German postal money order
for a COD parcel form used in Danzig as
an auxiliary parcel card for a 4.25 kg
parcel sent to Gawłuszowice with the
Gdańsk Nowy Port label without code
letter. 15 marks was raised for handling in
the harbour and 10 marks for customs

Wolne od cła of the Przemyśl customs
post office. GAWŁUSZOWICE arrival cds
30 April 1921. Two Polish stamps with
manuscript dopłaty (postage due) covering
the 25 marks postage due that had been
calculated, next to a GAWŁUSZOWICE
cds 2 May 1921.
