2 THE HARBOUR POST OFFICE

2.1 THE EXCHANGE OF MAIL WITH OVERSEAS COUNTRIES

In November and December 1920 in the
Poznań Customs Post Office old German
Posen W. 3 parcel labels were attached on
which Z AMERYKI was written by hand.
The Z AMERYKI... handstamp indicates
that the card was prepared in the Polish
Post Office in Danzig. The reason for
using the Poznań label is not clear, in
Danzig labels were being used already
from November. Two different types of
labels exist: one with a P before Posen W.
3 (rare) and one without P (2 copies
recorded).

AMERYKI PRZEZ GDAŃSK NR...

24 November 1920. Auxiliary parcel card
for a 5 kg parcel sent to Toruń with the Z
AMERYKI PRZEZ GDAŃSK NR... from
the Polish Harbour Post Office in Danzig,
indicating 2 marks due for handling in the
harbour and 2 marks for customs handling,
a p Posen W. 3 label and a POZNAŃ 3
transit cds 24 November 1920. German
single ring datestamp THORN 1e used
without date and a TORUŃ 1c cds 25
November 1920 on the reverse.
