2 THE HARBOUR POST OFFICE

2.1 THE EXCHANGE OF MAIL WITH OVERSEAS COUNTRIES

The Z Ameryki handstamp was used until mid-June 1921. At the end of June and in July no
handstamps were used, the date of handling the parcel in the post office was written on the parcel card by hand. At the same time the table for calculating the postage due, previously incorporated into the handstamp, was instead printed on different postal forms in blue or red ink.

24 June 1921. German proof of delivery for a postal money order with Polish overprint used for a 4¾ kg parcel sent to Krosno. Manuscript date 24.6.21. 15 marks was raised for postage and 10 marks for transport from the ship. PRZEMYŚL 1 5a cds 5 July 1921 and a Wolne od cła of the Przemyśl customs post office. Two normal Polish stamps used as postage due stamps cancelled KROSNO 1f 13 July 1921.

In August 1921 two circular datestamps with segments above and below the bridge and the text GDAŃSK NOWYPORT were introduced. One datestamp had the code letter a in the lower segment, the second datestamp was without a code letter.

10 November 1921. Polish parcel card with additional overprint used for a 4¾ kg parcel to Tartaków with the GDAŃSK NOWYPORT cds. 100 marks for postage in Poland, 50 marks for the transport from the ship and 10 marks for Customs handling due. Single-line WOLNO OD
CŁA on the front and a PRZEMYŚL 1 5a cds 21 November 1921 of the customs post office on the reverse. Three Polish 50 marks and one 10 marks postage stamp with a Tartaków local PORTO handstamp and a TARTAKÓW a cds 28 November 1921 on the reverse.
