2 THE HARBOUR POST OFFICE

2.1 THE EXCHANGE OF MAIL WITH OVERSEAS COUNTRIES

On 1 May 1926 the mutual exchange of parcels was opened between Poland and Sweden through the Polish Exchange Post Office in Danzig. Exchange Offices for Sweden were Malmö and Stockholm.

25 May 1927. Parcel card for a 7 kg parcel sent from Göteborg through Stockholm and the Polish Post Office Gdańsk No 3 to Katowice in Poland where it arrived on 9 June. POLSKI URZĄD POCZTOWY No 3 * GDAŃSK * a transit cds on the reverse. Customs clearance took place in the 3rd Katowice Customs Office which is confirmed by the boxed Wolno od cła (free of customs duties) handstamp, the KATOWICE URZĄD P l cds 9 June 1927 and an official seal of the Katowice Customs Post Office. On 10 June the parcel arrived at the destination post office. Two 30 groszy postage due stamps on the reverse, cancelled KATOWICE K 11 June 1927 on the day the parcel was collected, covering the 60 groszy fee for delivery of a parcel between 5 and 10 kg.

Mailbag tags used in the Swedish exchange post offices in Stockholm and Malmö for sending empty mailbags to the Polish Harbour Post Office in Danzig.
