2 THE HARBOUR POST OFFICE
2.2 THE TRANSIT OF MAIL FROM OTHER COUNTRIES
Next to the transit of parcels to and from Poland, the Harbour Post Office Gdańsk No 3 was also involved in the transit of parcels from third
countries via the Danzig harbour. Parcels from Latvia and from Estonia and the USSR were sent through Latvia, Poland and Danzig to the USA. The
reason for sending the parcels through the Danzig harbour was propably the regular connection of shipping companies between the Danzig harbour
and the USA. Also the better accessibility of the Danzig harbour in winter time might have been a reason
The Postal Administrations of Poland
and the USSR signed a treaty on 15 July
1925, which, amongst other things,
provided for the exchange of parcels.
The transit of parcels through Poland
was, however, not mentioned in the
treaty and the Polish post did not
officially accept this. Consequently the
USSR had to send its parcels through
Latvia to Poland where they were
regarded and handled as Latvian parcels.
Parcels from Estonia were handled in
the same way.

had to be sent through Latvia, Poland and Danzig. The weight was given as being 1kg 80 gr which was changed into 1,080 kg. Probably this was
done in Nikolayev already. The value of the parcel was cancelled; manuscript Not to take into account with a signature. On the left a manuscript
