3 THE POLISH HUGHES TELEGRAPH STATION

3.1 THE SENDING OF OFFICIAL TELEGRAMS

On 31 December 1921 the Polish Post in Danzig took over the Polish Telegraph Office in the building of the Polish diplomatic representative in the
Free City at the Neugarten. The office was called POLSKA STACJA HUGHESA (Polish Hughes Station) after the brand name of the telegraph and
was only used for sending official telegrams to Poland. The office was closed in the first part of 1930.

27 May 1923. Telegram sent from the Przemyśl Post Office to the Polish Harbour Post Office Gdańsk 1, saying that American parcel number 4377 had
not been received. POLSKA STACJA HUGHESA arrival handstamp of the Polish Telegraph Office. From there it was sent to the Harbour Post Office
where the boxed internal registration handstamp of the Harbour Post Office Gdańsk 1 was applied, showing that the telegram arrived there on 28 May.
