5 THE MAIN POST AND TELEGRAPH OFFICE
5.1.2 DOMESTIC MAIL – POSTAL SERVICES
A storage fee (składowe) was raised for each undeliverable
parcel for which a request for collection at the Post Office
(awizo) was left and which was not collected in time by the
recipient. Only in case the delay was caused by the Post the
storage fee was not raised. The storage fee had to be noted on the
parcel card at the place indicated for that.
6 November 1936. Parcel card for a 1,5 kg parcel, sent from Łowicz to Danzig. The Łowicz Post Office applied a ŁOWICZ label for parcels, a P.M.
(paczka mała – small parcel) label and an Urząd wymiany Tczew 2 label indicating the parcel had to go through the Tczew Exchange Post Office at the
border between Poland and the Free City. GDAŃSK 1 u arrival cds 8 November on the reverse. For a parcel between 1 and 3 kg with a distance
between 100 and 300 km 80 groszy had to be paid in cash by the sender. For 1 day storage 15 groszy postage due was raised, for informing the
recipient that a parcel arrived an additional 15 groszy, to be paid by the recipient. 30 groszy postage due stamp from the 1924 issue, postmarked
GDAŃSK 1 m 9 November 1936, on the reverse. The only recorded parcel card with storage fee raised at the Polish Post in Danzig.
A delivery service (doręczenie), based on
a request of the recipient, was available
for all parcels. Such parcels were
delivered within the local postal district
only.
6 June 1936. Parcel card for a 3,5 kg COD
parcel with a value of 37,60 złoty sent
from Gdynia to Drohiczyn Poleski. The
addressee could not be found in Drohiczyn
Poleski and the parcel was forwarded to
Drohiczyn nad Bugiem where the parcel
arrived on 14 June. The addressee was
unknown in Drohiczyn nad Bugiem as
well and the parcel was returned on 19
June to Danzig because the sending
company was situated there. On 22 Juni
the parcel returned to Danzig, which was
confirmed by a rectangular P.U.P.T
GDAŃSK 1 internal registration handstamp. From there, for reasons unknown,
the parcel was sent to Gdynia again.
Postage due stamps with a total value of
3,05 złoty to cover 30 groszy for delivery,
15 groszy for storage, 1,30 złoty for
forwarding, 1,00 złoty for return and an
additional 30 groszy unspecified,
cancelled GDYNIA 1 1a cds 26 June 1936.
