Making the Invisible Visible -
Paketbegleitkarte reveals travels with package
Way back in 1980, Danzig Report No.29 featured a very informative introduction of the Port Gdansk story by R.K.Mickey. One example of mail that was generated during this era was a card that had accomp anied a package from Nowy Sacz to Tarnow and had connected to Danzig via its red handstamp at the right side. This multi-line red form was said to be too light to read in the article, but Werner Bohne wrote to help our understanding of the language. Of additional interest is that almost all Polish postal cards used at this time (1920) were Austrian in origin. The five bars at the upper-left cover the arms of Austria and the old 12-heller value. The Polish Postal Service was organized mostly on Austrian lines.
