Vol. 1 - Nr. 47 - April - May - June - 1985

The Danzig Harbor has been the focal point of the City since we first heard of St. Adelbert’s journey to GYDDANYZC in 997 A.D. to board a ship for a missionary expedition to Samland to convert the Prussians. The word Gyddanyzc probably evolved from 2 Slav words, ku meaning near, and dana meaning water. At that time, Danzig was a small fishing settlement of Kashubian fishermen, ruled by dukes of Pomerelia. Regular commerce began in the tenth Century between Danzig, Kolobrzeg, Elbiag & Lubeck. On this page are a 1965 photo of a steamer in harbor, a color post card of the Krantor and a postal etching by l3erthold Hellingrath.
