5.1.2 DOMESTIC MAIL – POSTAL SERVICES

Poste restante mail was sent to a
certain post office to have it collected
there by the addressee. Such mail had
to be addressed ‘Poste Restante’ with
the name of the post office. The fee
for poste restante mail could be paid
by the sender. More often, however,
the fee was paid for by the recipient.
In such cases in the sending post
office a T-mark was applied together
with the amount due for poste
restante.

24 September 1932. A letter sent
from Danzig to Starogard poste
restante. The 10 groszy poste restante
fee was paid by the sender next to the
25 groszy fee for the letter.

24 July 1925. Picture postcard sent from Danzig to
Warszawa poste restante, to be paid by the
recipient. In Warszawa 5 groszy postage due was
raised for the poste restante service with an old
inflation period 30.000 mark (= 3 new grosze)
postage due stamp and a new 2 grosze postage due
stamp. WARSZAWA 1r arrival cds 26 July on the
reverse and a WARSZAWA 1b 26 July on the
postage due stamps.

2 August 1939. Postal stationery card
sent from Toruń poste restante Polish
Post Office in Danzig. The Post in
Torun applied a boxed handstamp,
indicating that 10 groszy postage due
had to be raised, to be paid by the
recipient as fee for the poste restante
service. The Polish Post in Danzig used
a 10 groszy Polish postage due stamp
from the November 1938 issue
cancelled GDAŃSK 1h 6 August 1939.
Only 2 items have been recorded with
postage due stamps from this issue used
by the Polish Post in Danzig.
