5.1.3 DOMESTIC MAIL – FINANCIAL SERVICES

Cash On Delivery - COD
(Pobranie) could be used by
the senders of registered
letter mail, insured letters or
parcels. These sendings were
charged with cash to be paid
by the recipient upon delivery
up to the maximum allowed
for postal money transfers.

8 May 1930. Registered COD
letter sent from Danzig to
Zyrardow. In Zyrardow the
letter was not collected in
time (written annotation in
Polish on the reverse) and the
letter was returned to the
Polish Post in Danzig on 21
May where the same
information was added in
German. 25 groszy for the
letter, 30 for registration and
50 for COD.

31 March 1937. Proof of posting for a
20½ kg COD parcel with a value of
6.300 złoty sent from Danzig to
Warszawa. Rare GDAŃSK 1h cds.
3,80 złoty for a 20 kg parcel over a
distance between 100 and 300 km and
50 groszy for cash on delivery.
Probably the postal employee added
another 50 groszy for the ½ kg on top
of the 20 kg. The total fee of 4,80
złoty was paid in cash.

The sender of registered letter mail,
an insured letter or a parcel with cash
on delivery could request lowering or
cancelling of the COD amount
(ządanie zmiany pobrania).

5 November 1935. Request for
cancelling the 12,42 złoty COD
amount for a 4 kg parcel sent on 1
November from Danzig to Wolsztyn.
55 groszy fee was paid for the request.
