5 THE MAIN POST AND TELEGRAPH OFFICE

5.2.3 DOMESTIC MAIL – OFFICIAL MAIL

From 1 September 1928 until
31 July 1933 all normal and
registered official mail could be
sent free of postage. Such mail
was endorsed SPRAWA
URZĘDOWA WOLNO OD
OPŁATY POCZTOWEJ (official mail free of postage)
together with an imprint of an
official seal or official address
as additional verification.

29 April 1931. Registered official letter from the Polish Diplomatic Representative in the Free City sent per express
to Gdynia with a double-line handstamp Sprawa urzędowa wolna od opłaty pocztowej. For express delivery an
additional 70 groszy had to be paid with stamps.

The text Sprawa urzędowa was used to
indicate official mail from governmental
offices while the text Sprawa służbowa was
reserved for official mail sent by the Polish
Post. It happened that governmental offices
used the wrong text.

24 May 1932. Official mail from the Polish
Diplomatic Representative in the Free City
sent to Grudziądz with a double-line
handstamp with wrong text Sprawa służbowa
wolna od opłaty pocztowej.
