5.2.3 DOMESTIC MAIL – OFFICIAL MAIL

4 December 1937. Registered (Polecone) official mail from the Regional Taxes Control Office in Warszawa sent to the Main Polish Post
Office Gdańsk No 1. Double-line Kontrola Dewizowa przeprowadzona indicating that the contents of the envelop were checked by the
currency control at the Warszawa 25 Post Office because the Free City of Danzig was a foreign country.
On 1 April 1935 two new
stamps were issued in Poland
for official mail because the
postal rate had increased from 1
to 6 groszy for normal mail and
from 2 to 12 groszy for
registered mail. Again no
official stamps were issued for
the Polish Post in Danzig.

diplomatic representative in the
Free City. The commemorative
datestamp was used in Post
Office Gdańsk No 1 in
December 1938.

A currency control for foreign
traffic was introduced on 26
April 1936. Letters had to be
presented open at the post office
where the contents were
controlled by the postal
employee who applied a
currency control label or
handstamp, his datestamp and
signature after controlling the
contents of the letter.
