5.2.3 DOMESTIC MAIL – OFFICIAL MAIL

Starting from 1 August 1933
the postage for official mail
sent to private persons or
companies had to be paid for by
the recipient. Such mail had to
be endorsed with the text
Sprawa urzędowa Opłatę
pocztową uiści adresat (Official
matter Postage to be paid by the
addressee) together with an
official handstamp. On such
mail postage due was raised for
only the missing postage
without additional penalty. No
official stamps were used.

Gdańsk 1 b arrival cds on
the backside

3 December 1937. Registered official letter from the Polish regional railways management, Bydgoszcz office sent to Danzig. Boxed Sprawa urzędowa
Opłatę pocztową uiści adresat. The Bydgoszcz Post Office applied a boxed T- handstamp indicating that 55 groszy due (25 for the letter and 30 groszy
for the registration) had to be paid. In the same post office the letter went through the currency control. The GDAŃSK 1 b arrival cds on the reverse
showed that the letter arrived in Danzig the same day but the letter was collected only on 14 December as can be seen by the GDAŃSK 1 k cds on the
Polish postage due stamps.

The Drawski Młyn Postal
Agency applied a boxed T -
handstamp indicating that 55
groszy due (25 for the letter and
30 groszy for the registration)
had to be paid. Currency control
label on the reverse. GDAŃSK 1
b arrival cds on the reverse
shows that the letter arrived in
Danzig on 4 November, the
letter was delivered the same
day. GDAŃSK 1 k cds on the
Polish postage due stamps.
