5.3 FOREIGN MAIL

The Polish Post in Danzig was only allowed to handle mail from Poland to the Free City and vice versa. Mail that was addressed to foreign
destinations was returned to the sender.

undeliverable mail

13 July 1929. Letter from Danzig to Germany. The
envelope is endorsed on the back to inform that mail
handled by the Polish Post in Danzig could only be sent
to Poland. The cover was officially opened and resealed
(Urzędownie otwarto i zamknięto) on 6 August in the
office for undeliverable mail (dead letter office) to find
out the sender, as confirmed by the official seal of the
office and the signatures of two postal clerks.

9 November 1932. Letter from
Danzig to Germany. The envelope
is endorsed Niedozwolone (not
allowed) on the back to inform that
it was not allowed to send a letter
abroad and a GDAŃSK 1 k cds 9
November 1932. The cover was
officially opened and closed on 23
November in the office for
undeliverable mail to find out the
sender, as confirmed by the official
seal of the office and unique
imprints of the DYREKCJA P. i T.
GDAŃSK URZĄD NIEDORĘCZ.
PRZESYŁEK cds. On the same day
the letter was returned to sender
and the stamps were cancelled.
