that the attack on the Polish Post Office as well as other areas in Poland was unlawful. This is confirmed by the Danziger Police, whose creation by the SS and “war—action” was... illegal.., and against all accepted international conventions governing . . . conduct in wartime

According to the German document, the author of the plan estimated the number of workers at the post office as about 50 people. He foresaw using 150 policemen for the attack, as well as 24 policemen to close off the street and six policemen to take over the building after the postmen surrendered. The attackers were also armed with flame—throwers and arm ored cars. The document clearly reveals that the attack.. .by the Nazis was prmeditated and systematic.

Another document, dated January 9, 1940, better shows the preparat ion for agression in the Free City of Danzig. The SS and Police comm ander in Danzig and Western Prussia, SS Gruppenfuhrer Hildebrandt, wrote to ReichsfUhrer SS, Heinrich Himmier:
1.Sturmbann Eimann as reinforcing police unit was created on 3 July 1939 with permission of SS Ober.ordost and 55 Reichsfuhrer. Armament and equipment was delivered by Schutzpolicei in Danzig.

Kurt Eimann, a lieutenant in the German Police was sent by the commander of the Riot Police (Ordnungspolizei) from the German Reich to Danzig to organize a Nazi fighting squad called SS-Wachsturmbann (Eimann). This group was created at the time of the preparation of the secret plan for the attack on the post office, and, along with the Danziger SS—Heimwehr, were to seize strategic Polish points in Danzig. Neither was a part of the Wermacht, but both fought under its orders.

There, were, very few things that Hitler did outside the borders of the Reich that wern “Legal”. The world missed its opportunity to squash his I’gime during the takeover of the Rhineland. France could have possibly made a successful offensive during the “Phony War”, and so on and so on. Monday morning is the best time to plan things that we should have done on the field. - Ed)
