However, another stamp has a cross on the left sheet margin (Figure 7), and we can give two explanations:

1) Not only dots were engraved on the plates, but also some crosses. Certainly, there must have been one pane with a cross on the left side and one with a dot, but this is not very likely.

2) Indeed, two different plates were used for the stampswith the Port Gda,lsk overprint. This matches Maxa’s theory that the damaged Plate 2 was repaired, crosses engraved instead of the dots, and used again for printing stamps in the P.W.P.W. plant.

CONCLUSION
Facts show that the first Port Odartsk issue was printed from the fourth plate (plate number III) that was used for the third Polish issue, and perhaps also on stamps from the first plate that was used for the first Polish issue. However, the ordering date of the third Polish Figure 7 issue is April11, 1930, whereas the Port Gdadsk stamps were already on sale from November30, 1929. This indicates that a mistake with the dates must have been made. For the second Port Gdarfsk issue, stamps from the fifth plate (plate number JV)of the fourth issue were used. However,a stamp with plate number 11 shows that also stamps printed from Plate 2, used for the second issue, that was later replaced, were used. According to M axa, the damaged plate was repaired by the P.W.P.W . and used later again
