MORE EXAMPLES OF GENUINE AND FORGED STAMPS
This is an example of Machwerk illustrated in Kurt Holtz’s book. He states that all three examples of inverted overprints (kopfstehendem Aufciruck) were never sold at a post office counter and that the cancels are CTO.
Right-side-up this time, but the overprint on the 10 Pf red stamp is Forgery No.DR-3. The 5 Pf stamps: echt.
THE ORIGINAL LITHOGRAPHIC STONE
SCHRXGDRUCKE In order to produce the sharp overprints (and forgenes) by offset pnntmg, the printer’s artist must be extremely talented and capable of making finely-detailed drawings of the overprints in reverse! Julius Sauer’s employees show their abilities in this litho stone, on which are drawn many designs for use as trial proofs, some of which will be utilized as the final design of the stamp. Sometime in the future we hope to show the entire process of this type of printing.
