On the outward and return trip, there were each 22 passengers on board, including the lottery winners. The longer cruise was completely booked with 36 guests.
Because the captain, Dr. Eckener, had to cancel, the airship flew under the command of Captain Lehmann, who was killed during the destruction of the airship Hindenburg in der U.S.A. in May of 1937. Captains Schüler, Wittemann and Sammt took charge of the navigation of the Graf Zeppelin. For the wireless communication system, Captain Preuss was responsible.
