Note 1 - Although April 20, 1920, is regarded as the OFFICIAL date of opening, with ltttle or no fanfare, It was already In operation. It Is true that this office was NOT open to the public; It Is NOT true that It did not handle letter malt! The agreement stated that the office was meant for the exchange of mall to and from overseas destinations and for the sending and receiving of mail for the Polish officials In the Frele Stadt Danzig. So, letters were handled, but ONLY OFFICIAL MAIL. I have two examples of this in my collection, and they are the only two that I have seen so far. (H. V.)
