A New Perf Discovery?
On the 5th of June, 1924, Mi. 206 was issued as part of an airmail set. Due apparently to a defective perforation device, the left vertical row (Field 1, 11, 21, 31, 41) has a wider format and are missing the far right horizontal perforation. These stamps are designated Mi. 206111.

While browsing through stocks, two earlier stamps have been found with exactly the same characteristics as found in the 206111 variety. Michel does not (at least not currently) recognize these as worthy of mention.

The two stamps that I have found, Mi. 147 and Mi. 168, have a horizontal format rather than vertical, as with Mi. 206. However, when turned 90 degrees on its left side, Mi. 206111 matches them both in size and with the missing perforations.

Mi. 147, the 10,000 Mark (8/23) and Mi. 168, the ten million Mark overprinted on the one million Mark (10/23) appear to have been printed in exactly the same way as Mi. 206. I was fortunate in finding two sheets of Mi. 147 to test my theory, and both sheets proved to be perforated differently! This spacing difference is apparent when the one sheet is folded over the other, as we have done here. As a novice in the Danzig area, I may be rehashing old information, but hope that I have realized one of my ambitions in locating a new variety. As yet, I haven’t found any of the other large format stamps of the era to have the same characteristics of Mi. 206111.
