A Year of Crisis — 1935

surplus amounts remaining after completion of the removal will be remitted to the person entitled to public assistance on application (cf: paragraph 8). Where advance payments to carriers are required, the Senate will pay in moderate amounts.

5. The person entitled to public assistance may choose which carrier to engage; it may be from Danzig or Germany.

6. The carriers from Danzig have undertaken to give a reduction of 10% on the rate of removal charges. It is anticipated that the German carriers will do likewise. The reduction must be explicitly stated on the account.

7. Stamp duties for preparation of police certificates for the customs authorities will not be collected.

8. After completion of the removal, persons entitled to public assistance must submit a form detailing removal costs to their local authority in Danzig. The amount will be paid after the form has been checked.

9. On application by a person entitled to public assistance, the Control Board for Foreign Financial Transactions in Danzig will approve:

a. purchase of an appropriate amount of Reichsmark banknotes (current rate of exchange — 178.58 Gulden) for the journey to find accommodation.

b. for the removal journey, up to 150 Reichsmarks per family

10. On application by the person entitled to public assistance, savings in Danzig savings banks and other banks will be paid in full, even without the prescribed period of notice of removal.

On the approval of the Control Board for Foreign Financial Transactions, which will always be granted, sums of money not expended in Danzig may be transferred to Germany. These sums should be deposited with the State Bank, which in turn will arrange payment in Germany at a place designated by the person entitled to public assistance, at the official rate of exchange for Reichsmarks. The transfer of sums of money falling due later; e.g. rents, interest, etc., will be possible. It is permissible to take securities and foreign currency.

11. All persons entitled to public assistance in Danzig will retain Danzig citizenship in Germany, including their Danzig passport.

12. Later visits from Germany to Danzig are, of course, permissible at any time; however, attention must be paid to the foreign currency regulations. At present, only 10 Reichsmarks per month can be taken or sent to Danzig without the approval of the Foreign Exchange Board. Anyone who has greater commitments in Danzig and therefore wishes to send more than 10 Reichsmarks per month will require approval of the Foreign Exchange Board

13. Contributions by persons entitled to public assistance to the Danzig Civil Service Association will be deducted from the amounts payable in Germany and remitted to the Danzig Civil Service Association (e.g. from 2.80 Gulden 1.33 Reichsmarks will be deducted). Maintaining
