On 7 April there was a well-stuffed auction of Danzig assets with HBA in Hamburg, where eight members of the Danzig ARGE showed up. I’ve got some moderate items, including a letter from 1932 cancelled koscierzyna Gdar4sk No. 431, as shown in DR ff82. The railway cancellations of Port Gdatlsk are indeed scarce and rarely offered. So it was great fun to me.

On page 20, Ernie Solit asks for an explanation in respect to two cancels; they are French transit cancels (Grenz-Uhergangs-stempel) applied by the French border (exchange) post office at Valenciennes. PR.3 R means Preusse 3—e Rayon (Prussia — third region). Thanks to the French 2—circle cancels, many of the German/prussian letters, including those from Danzig, could be pinned to the year of despatch, as the Prussian cancels often showed only the day/month figures. There were a large variety of such transit cancellations, successively introduced, and depending on the route the mail was directed.
