5.1.2 DOMESTIC MAIL – POSTAL SERVICES

A proof of posting (dowód nadania)
was given to each sender of registered,
insured and COD mail, parcels, telegrams
and postal money order. This proof of
posting gave the sender the right to
request a compensation in case such a
sending disappeared

5 January 1925. Proofs of posting for two
registered express letters, having the
registration numbers 3 and 4, sent from
Danzig to Warszawa on 5 January 1925,
the first day the Post Office was opened
for the public. First day of use.

11 March 1937. Proof of posting for a 5 kg
COD parcel with a value of 84,90 zł sent from
Danzig to Katowice. Rare GDAŃSK 1g cds.
1,80 zł. for a 5 kg parcel over a distance of
more than 300 km and 50 groszy for cash on
delivery. The total fee of 2,30 zł. was paid in
cash.

12 April 1939. Proof of posting for a 21-
gram letter with an insured value of 30 złoty
sent from Danzig to Gdynia. 50 groszy for a
letter between 21 and 250 gram, 30 groszy
for registration and 10 groszy minimum fee
for insurance.

31 August 1939. Proof of posting for a second
rate registered letter sent on 31 August 1939
at 19.00, one hour before closing, from
Danzig to Gdynia. The next day, on 1
September 1939, the Post Office was attacked
by combined armed forces of Danzig Police
and Danzig SS troops. Last day of use.
