This Danzig fell into German hands once again despite fierce and heroic reristance from the Poles there,concentrating on the PolishPost Office ana at Westerplatte the historical site which fell to the first shots of the invading Nazis.A monument has been erected there to commemorate those who had defended and liberated Danzig. The heroism of these actions has been depicted in several post-war Polish stamps.
