Westerplatte:
A sandy hook of land calles the Westerplatte is thhe northern promontory of Danzig Harbour.
By a special agreement made in 1921 with the Danzig Senate, Poland had been permitted to store ammunition, with 82 marines allowed on Westerplatte as guards. As part of Hitler's war preparations, the German navy patrolled the Baltic and the Bay of Danzig. The old battleship Schleswig - Holstein was send to Danzig, presumably to take part in ceremonies honoring World War naval dead. It was berthed directly across from the Westerplatte, and at precisely 4:45 AM began shelling the
